Treatments for sexual intercourse problems

Your emotions and stress levels can play a big part in conception. Medication or counselling can help improve fertility in conditions such as erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation.

Hormone treatment

In cases where hormone abnormalities can affect infertility, your doctor might recommend hormone treatment or medications to correct the hormonal balance. Hormonal treatments can also stimulate the testicles to improve sperm production.

Treating infections

Antibiotic treatment can cure an infection of the reproductive tract. It is important to diagnose infections accurately. It may take some time to restore fertility.

Surgery

Surgical interventions may sound scary, but the marvel of modern medicine has allowed skilled specialists to treat the complex causes of male infertility. For example, varicocoeles can often be surgically corrected or an obstructed vas deferens repaired. Vasectomies can be reversed. In cases where no sperm is present in the ejaculate, sperm can be retrieved directly from the testicles or epididymis using sperm retrieval techniques. Take a look at these specialized assisted reproductive procedures we offer.

Alternatives

Your fertility specialist may advise that you consider the use of donor sperm (just like a female may need to use donor eggs) if it is not possible to use your own sperm. You and your partner should talk openly about how you feel about adoption, and whether this is an option for you.

treatments overview

what we do is an ART

Assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments involve obtaining sperm through normal ejaculation, surgical extraction or from donor individuals, depending on your specific case and wishes. The sperm are then inserted into the female genital tract, or used to perform in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

For couples who are considering IVF, semen samples can be obtained in a couple of different ways. You can provide a sample by masturbating and ejaculating into a special container at a fertility clinic. Or, if you have a known condition of abnormal sperm production due to previous testicular surgery or medical treatments, genetic or other male factor infertility issues, a specialised surgical procedure such as micro-TESE may be recommended to you by your fertility specialist.
